Today I got to play with our new snazzy raspberry Kodak Zi8. Its like a Flip camera, but HD and with an external mic input!
Tested it very quickly in the office today and its looking promising. It can shoot in 1080p, 720p, a lower res, and also 720p @ 60 fps. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the computer to like the 60 fps footage. Saves as H264. I’ve only tested on a mac so far which doesn’t have specific software support, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do with this on a PC.
Although there is no way to monitor audio through headphones, you CAN adjust audio levels! FTW.
SUPER easy to use, a total cinch.
Below is a video of me testing the different video modes with and without an external microphone (and its at a lower res than what was filmed). Hope to do more extensive tests later. Will post new developments!

From the 13th to the 16th of July, a group of 16 youth with cerebral palsy from all around Sydney came together at the CuriousWorks loft to take part in the first ever Flick Movie Making Camp. In partnership with the Spastic Centre, CuriousWorks supported the Flick crew through a lightning-paced process of technical training, concept development, scripting, shooting, and editing, which culminated in a screening for family and friends of the participants on the camp’s final day.
With remarkable dedication, and a degree of generosity towards each other’s contributions that is rarely seen in collaborative arts production endeavours, the Flick crew produced 3 short films in 4 short days: a hip-hop music video, an original song with images celebrating the value of family, and a post-apocalyptic zombie film. Flick’s significant accomplishments throughout their process highlight the error of any who may think that youth and Cerebral Palsy are conditions that restrict a group of empowered people’s ability to come together as a formidable media-making force.
