Mashup: This City is a Body || Sold (to the lucky ones)

This City is a Body is a mashup of two CuriousWorks projects: video excerpts from our ‘This City is a Body’ conference in 2007 and a song by our audiovisual collective, Asi, called ‘Sold’.

The clip is the trailer for CuriousWorks’ first ever feature film, This City is a Body: The Migrant Project Film. We’ll be premiering the film at our warehouse this November. Check out the clip at the jump!

I was inspired by the opportunity to take excerpts from two amazing speeches at this conference – by Dr Richard Greenthun and Dr Ross Gibson – and give the ideas within them a more mainstream appeal by putting them to a beat.

The conference was held as part of The Migrant Project, CuriousWorks’ first project which brought together 50 Sydneysiders with cultural and artistic ancestries from across the planet to develop cross-platform projects about Sydney as a city built on a history of migration.

reFILL Exhibition @ Casula Powerhouse

You’ve heard about them here since May last year, but now its time for the reFILL kids to make their works public! From July 25 – October 11, Casula Powerhouse will be exhibiting the artworks, videos, songs and technologies created by the reFILL kids over the last 3 years.

CuriousWorks has been running New Media workshops at Miller Technology High since May 2008 as part of the reFILL program, helping the kids produce such works as Attack of the Bullies and reFILL Sketch Comedy. As well as empowering the young people with the skills to produce and publish their own media, the reFILL kids also dabbled in DIY technologies, creating their own speaker-boxes and infra-red spray cans.

All these works will be displayed in their own interactive exhibition at Casula Powerhouse for you to check out! Also, its FREE!

All Around You: Roebourne – Arts Media Installation in Chalk Horse Gallery, Surry Hills

We have an installation opening at Chalk Horse gallery tomorrow night that runs to 25th July. The installation is a kind of immersive experience of Roebourne, Western Australia, where we worked for 4 weeks last year and will return to over the next two years.

It features timelapses of the town and surrounding landscapes, a documentary filmed by young people from Roebourne and an interactive photo gallery of images also taken by a young person from Roebourne. If you’re ever in Surry Hills in July, pop in to check it out!

Live EP# 2 – Gig Recording at CuriousWorks

This Saturday night! This is the second in a series of nights where bands record and film a live, intimate gig in the CuriousWorks warehouse.

We’re talking a night packed with acoustic, folk, world and laptop-rock goodness, featuring…

As usual, they’ll be audiovisual. The line up of vocals, guitars, bass, tabla, and beats will be accompanied by live drawings projected at large onto CuriousWorks’ big screen!

Wills and Ways
Wills & Ways are an acoustic based contemporary folk-pop trio from Sydney, a collaboration between three experienced musicians with diverse performance histories in acoustic, rock and multicultural folk music.

8pm
No One Special
A sweet acoustic duo visited by stringy strangers, No One Special play subtle acoustic guitar music with melodies that are hard to forget.

7pm Ben Hardie and The Focus
