So I’m running about with the kids here in Marble Bar having a blast yesterday taking pictures with them.
It’s a beautiful Pilbara morning, about 75ºF (or 24ºC for those on metric). There’s a beautiful breeze blowing, kids laughing and screaming. We ran to the playground to go and complete our activity for the day – find and document 4 colors, one for each device (iPod Nano, iPhone, FlipCam and a Canon PowerShot A40). The kids (age 4-12) were pointing out each color they came across excitedly.
‘”It’s red! It’s red! It’s REEEEDDDD!!!!”
And then I got to the playground with them.
Wait. A 4 year old? A 5 year old? Running around barefoot in this tiny desert town (barely avoiding cars on the ‘busiest’ street in town?) Where were their parents? Where was the childcare? It totally hit me.
I was it.
There’s no infrastructure in this town for public services to take care of kids.

Nice.
Plant a tree next to that building (in the pix) for the shade.
Have you experienced 113 degree heat yet?
